Alberich asked:

I was just reviewing the “leaderboard”. Some Best Answers users in other categories, their Best Answers number in the thousands.

Some even have accumulated 6,000 + points in one week. How is this possible?

The top answerer in the classical music category, has only 500 +.

Have any of you patrons of this category, been users of Yahoo! Q & A, since the program’s inception?

Does anyone know exactly when, how long, this category of “classical music”, has existed as a separate, distinct entity?

Just curious,

Alberich

I was in a car with a mate and he put this song on over the radio, it started off with classical music, then it went on to rap.

There were girls and pimps in the lyrics and one like about brush the shoulder.

Does anyone know what it is?

John T asked:

I’m just beginning to get into orchestral music, etc. (classical, but not from exclusively the classical mvmt) and it would be great if there was a website that compared the pros and cons of getting a particular recording of a piece. Perhaps you know of one?

for example, “this one is very warm sounding, but loses a lot of details as a result of bad engineering. This one is very well recorded, but the musicians sound uninspired. This one is a brilliant performance, but is 50 years old so the recording has many limitations…”

m39bd asked:

My mom and dad, grandma, two aunts, all my sisters, two uncles and three cousins were all musicians playing more than one instrument most of them, and of course, almost all went to the conservatory and played classical music like me at present
Wow…I imagine that like me, some of you had it rather easy since our mom, dad etc. were musical… although there is a lot of merit in whatever we achieved by ourselves

However, I also give lots of credit to the “first” musicians in the family like Ravelins and Brian 777…
Thanks for answering…

Dylan asked:

in your opinion?
especially for someone like me who has NO experience with classical music?

“Introduction to classical music for the nonspecialist. Overview of the music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, followed by a study of selected masterpieces of Western art music, including works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner, Mahler, and Stravinsky. Consideration of how classical music differs from popular music and how “high” and “low” culture formed a symbiotic relationship at the end of the twentieth century.”
