While their have been disconnects in the past, it seems to me that never before have so few people enjoyed the music of the greatest composers of the day. And I am not counting film score composers for consideration of this question.

I’ve never listened to classical music before but I would like to give it a try. I know the big name Beethoven, Mozart and so on but what should I start with, what would you consider to be a good introduction to classical music.

Looking for unknown contemporary classical music composers?

DB asked:

I am looking for contemporary classical composers (or pieces) that are not too mainstream for a commission.

Strings and or Piano. Something dark, subtle yet dramatic, mysterious but melodic at the same time. Possibly an ugly sounding string piece.

Any recommendations even if it doesn’t fit the description would be appreciated.

Do we (in Australia) live in a country where only popular musc can be bought?
Fish’s records in George Street has disappeared. HMV in Pitt Street is gone. Even the classical music department in Myers has been taken over by ‘playstation’.

Even an Australian Internet address would be wonderful. HELP…. please!!!!!!!

What do you call this part of a song in classical music?

kappamaki81 asked:

The part where it gets quiet before becoming louder/more intense? An example would be in a wedding when soft string music is being played, and then all of a sudden it stops, a few notes sound and it turns into ‘Here Comes the Bride’?

Sorry for the poor explanation, thanks in advance to anyone who knows!
